IT WAS HERE, ACCORDING TO MYTHOLOGY, THAT HERCULES ERADICATED
THE STYMPHALIAN BIRDS.

The aim of the museum is to raise public awareness of environmental issues and safeguard the knowledge about the region's traditional technology. In the first section of the museum you will find information about the environment of the region and its importance. Stymphalia is part of the European network of protected areas NATURA 2000 . Lake Stymphalia and Mount Ziria hold significant ecological importance. They are connected by both underground and visible water channels, forming the Stymphalia water basin, the largest mountainous water basin in the Peloponnese. This landscape represents the southernmost mountain wetland in the Balkans, boasting diverse flora and fauna.

The region's environment has influenced the development of human activities, especially traditional crafts.

Inside the Environmental Museum of Stymphalia you can visit a unique exhibition in Greece: an open aquarium representing a part of the lake, with living fish and plants from the region!!

The Multipurpose Hall hosts temporary exhibitions, organizes events and cultural activities.

INTERESTING ACTIVITIES FOR CHILDREN

Children can explore the wonders of the wetland aboard a boat, observing its vibrant plant life and curious fish within the lake exhibit at the Environment Museum. Original models and interactive digital displays vividly illustrate how humans have coexisted with nature around Lake Stymphalia for millennia, captivating young minds.

The museum also hosts engaging educational programs with games and activities for schools and groups, including the popular 'Secret Games in the Waters of the Lake'.
